Hortonville High School

On behalf of the high school ELL staff, I would like to thank all of those who helped make our wonderful field trip to the Milwaukee Public Museum possible. This includes Bob McIntosh, Harry Steenbock, Mary Knoke, Don Schend, Joel Newcomb, Juli Schuh, and Mary Snyder, and the School Board. The kids had a great time learning and seeing Body Worlds and the other amazing exhibits. Your kindness and support are greatly appreciated.

Hortonville Middle School

All during March Emily WIlda, Jessica Quillman, and Abby Nemitz were helping children in Africa and Haiti by holding some fundraisers for the Feed My Starving Children organization. From all of the help we got from the kids at HMS, Kwik Trip for donating ice cream and toppings, and Thrivent for helping out with the fundraisers, they raised at total of exactly $600! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED AND HELPED!!!

 HES and HMS

A special thank you to the Kids at Hope leadership teams at HES and HMS.  Diane Nackers, Dawn Hieptas, Kelly Cooper, Lee Van Hulle, Ann VanCaster, Jim Johnson, Greg Hall, Jeff Nault, JoAnn Sutton, and Crystal Gorwitz attended the KAH two day training with Rick Miller in November and have been leaders in their respective schools to infuse the Kids at Hope philosphy of "All Children are Capable of Success, NO EXCEPTIONS" into the culture of HES and HMS. These outstanding professionals embrace and practice the philosophy, support it in the culture of the schools, and  implement school-wide activities. Because of their leadership, KAH is alive and well!!

Hortonville School District Music Boosters

There are not enough words to thank Amy Cebulski, current President of the Hortonville Music Boosters, for all that she has done & continues to do for the Hortonville Music Program!!  Amy does an OUTSTANDING job when coordinating each & every Music Booster event - you can always count on her never ending energy & diligence - her fundraising efforts are beyond commendable!!  Last Friday evening the Annual HHS Community Jazz Dance was held. With Amy coordinating the event & the help & support of our awesome Music Booster Board, Music Booster parents, and the support of our comminty, over $4,000 was raised. This year, the proceeds from this event will be donated to help Mr. Jim Frankow, a true supporter of our music programs, who has leukemia - this is just one example of how Amy's hard work proved to be a huge success!!  If you see Amy out & about, please be sure to give her an extra "THANK YOU!" for all of her hard work!!!!!!

Dear Teachers and Support Staff,    This week we celebrate Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week.  As I am coming towards the end of my first year in the District, I have had the opportunity to see firsthand the quality of our faculty and staff.  I have worked with hundreds of teachers and support staff during my 33 years in education.  I have seen amazing teachers and support staff doing amazing things with students during those 33 years.  I am elated to say that I have witnessed many of those amazing things during this past year.  Let me share with you just a few of the things I have witnessed.    I saw Scott Brielmaier teaching “hands-on” physics with students pushing a car across the parking lot.  I witnessed David Harris, Marian Moberg, Jen Smith, Erin Edwards and Kris Sievert teaching “the World’s Largest Lesson.”  I viewed Andy Schmidt coming in before school to work with his Jazz Band.  I saw the incredible school musical which displayed the tremendous talents of students, but not without the tremendous nurturing of those talents by Shelley Nulton, Abby Schmidt, Andy Schmidt, Sharon Johnson and many others.  Who would take 120 students half way around the world?  Greg Forton and many other teachers and staff here did.       I saw teachers like Sue Blom and Pam Schutte serving not only as teachers, but almost as “second Moms” to our youngest students.  I saw teachers like Don Williams, Jeff Nault, Chris Gennrich, Pootch Prutchnofski, Karen Acker, Kristi Plamann and dozens of other teachers and staff putting in countless hours after school coaching and leading extracurricular opportunities for our students.  I have seen Lori McCarthy volunteer to help us share the “Good News” in the Hortonville Area School District.  I have seen Mary Snyder work weekends and past 10:00pm at night to meet the needs of our Board of Education.   I have seen Kris Zullner, Bev Witt, Tanya Lynaugh, Laurie Leitzke, Jennifer Koenecke, Sarah Hall, Gen Eirich, Dawn DeGuelle and Chuck Claybaugh give 5 days of their weekends to contribute to our Strategic Planning Process.  I have seen many other teachers give up evening after evening working on Action Planning Teams.    I have seen Jackie Dorow, passionately fighting for her Department, to make sure education doesn’t take a backseat to extracurriculars.       I have seen 42 teachers take the time to write a grant to offer their students an opportunity that they would not normally have.  I have seen so many teachers (most actually) giving up their lunch hours to plan, work with students, meet with parents, grade papers, etc. on a daily basis.  I have seen teachers like Greg Yeager, Claire Peeters, Mike Haas, Shannon Everett, Janet Rowe, and Ginny Kang work hard to negotiate a fair contract for all teachers and make improvements to the “7 Hour Requirement.”  I have seen teachers like Sara McMorrow, Anne Stangel, David Harris and other mentor teachers put in countless hours making sure our newest teachers are successful.  I have seen teachers like Mike Paltzer and Lena Arts embrace new technology and excite their students using Smart Boards.  I have seen Dave Moe mummify chickens with his students.   I have seen Julie Hodges, Joel Newcomb, Janine Connelly and Mary Lynn Hermus work to provide support to students in need.  I have seen the entire faculty and staff of Greenville Middle School come together in time of tragedy to support the family of a student who died suddenly, as well as each other.      I could go on and on.  If you don’t see your name up above, it’s not because you haven’t deserved it.  It’s only because my memory isn’t perfect, or I just haven’t been around long enough yet to notice.  Don’t worry … I will in time.  Writing this letter has caused me to reflect upon this past year.  I consider myself blessed to be here, surrounded by so many caring and dedicated educators.   For those of you who have never been somewhere else, please don’t ever take for granted the quality of our teachers and support staff.  I know I never will.  Please know that I and many, many others appreciate what you do every single day, not just this week.  Have a great “Teacher and Support Staff Appreciation Week!  With warm regards,  Bill Prijic
