Taher Inc. to Remove Trans Fats from School Lunches

Taher Inc., who manages your Food Service Program, has announced that the company has begun converting to trans-fat-free products.  The first phase which began in January, eliminated trans fats from frying oil and purchased potato products.  As more manufacturers begin offering zero trans fat alternatives, we will continue to make the switch to healthier ingredients.   We will also be adjusting recipes and replacing processed items with more scratch cooking, to meet our goal of eliminating all trans fats by the fall of 2008.

Eliminating trans fats is only the first step in an ongoing commitment we have made to help our customers establish and maintain lifelong healthy eating habits.   Read our Food 4 Life belief statement below, and click on the logo to learn more about our initiative, on the Nutrition page of this website.

Taher Inc. recognizes foods and eating habits have changed, and we are concerned about their impact to our customers and the future of our children.  As mindful stewards, we are committed to the health, wellness, and responsible eating habits of our customers, 4 Life.  With the leadership of our chef council and nutrition & wellness department, we will incorporate products and recipes that use fresh, high quality wholesome foods.  We pledge to stay on the leading edge of this charge, now and 4 Life.

More Fruit and Vegetable Bar Choices

Students will find more choices of vegetables on the Fruit and Vegetable Bars this year.  In order to encourage students to eat more healthy foods, we will feature four vegetables daily in addition to the fresh fruit and canned fruit choices.  Popular fresh vegetables such as baby carrots, cherry tomatoes, snap peas and cauliflower are examples of what they can choose from.  The rotating choices even include unique foods like Jicama and zucchini slices.

We will utilize as much locally grown fruits and vegetables as possible throughout the growing season.  We recently featured Spartan Apples grown in nearby Belgium WI for our Apple Harvest Promotion.
