Welcome to Hortonville High School Counseling
Each student at Hortonville is assigned a school counselor by the first letters
of their last name. Mrs. Mary Lynn Hermus works with students A-G. Mrs. Marcia Smith
works with students H - O. Mr. Joel Newcomb works with students P - Z.
The guidance office will be open until 8:00 p.m. on Mondays. This will accommodate
parents and community members who find it inconvenient to reach the counselors and
their services during the normal school working hours. Appointments are appreciated.
School counselors are the first people that should be asked about most school-related
concerns. Topics such as class choice, post-secondary planning, standardized tests,
report cards, academic potential, acceleration, curriculum, and virtually anything
school-related, are questions often asked of counselors.
School counselors are also prepared to answer questions on many topics outside of
school that affect school performance. Career development, motivation, personal
relationships, depression, employment, risk-taking behaviors, and general problem
solving are just some of the many areas in which counselors work with students and
their families.
