Mission Statement
The Hortonville Area School District, in partnership with our community, will provide ALL students with challenging and diverse opportunities to become enthusiastic lifelong learners who will build the future.

Steps in the Identification Process

 Steps in the Identification Process

Step One: Screening and/or Nomination
The screening step of the identification process may be triggered by a review of test scores or a teacher, parent, peer, or self nomination. The purpose of screening is to develop a “Review List” which is a pool of students who need further assessment(s) or observation(s).

Step Two: Eligibility
The purpose of this step is to review nominated students and determine the need for formal identification and ultimate placement in the GATE program. The GATE coordinator and/or GATE resource specialist will conduct a complete assessment to determine what curriculum/programming options best suit a child’s needs.

Step Three: Program Options/Services
The purpose of this step is to ensure that a student’s needs are matched with appropriate and available program options.   Appropriate challenges are provided in the classroom as teachers differentiate instruction. Additional challenges beyond the regular grade level will be provided as needed.
