Course Description:
This course prepares students for their financial future and how to handle money effectively and responsibly. It teaches the importance of savings so they can live independently and prepare for a successful future with their family. Topics that will be included are developing an understanding of financial planning, budgeting, investing, income taxes, retirement planning, credit, and insurance.

Student Behavior Expectations
Be Courteous to Everyone
- When a teacher or student is addressing the class everyone listens
- Swearing will not be permitted or tolerated in this classroom
- Ethnic, racial, physical or mental health jokes or comments will not be permitted
- Humor is encouraged and welcomed but not in an impertinent manner
Follow all Safety Procedures
- Know and understand the safety rules in the school handbook
- Horseplay will not be tolerated
- The computers will only be used when permitted
Take Responsibility for your Education
- Turn your quality work in on time
- If I wasn’t clear, ask questions
- Get all assignments if you are going to be absent

- Grade and return all completed assignments in a timely fashion

Cheating Policy
A student who chooses to cheat or plagiarizes will receive no credit for the assignment and may be withdrawn from and/or receive a failing grade for the class.
Assessment
You will be graded on a point system made up of the following items:
· Daily Participation 15%
· Assessments 50%
· Daily Assignments/Homework 35%

Homework
Because of the amount of class time given to complete an assignment, no late work will be accepted. Exception-if you are absent you will have an extra day to complete the assignment for each day you are gone.
Extra
Bring in a box of Kleenex the first week of school and receive five extra credit points!
DAILY PARTICIPATION (10%)
Students will be evaluated daily on a 0-4 scale:
A (4):
· Arrives to class on time and prepared
· Doesn’t ask to leave
· Productive throughout the entire class period on course-related material
· Takes initiative and goes beyond expectations for assigned tasks & shares ideas
· Has and maintains a very positive attitude
· Works with classmates, assisting others when individual tasks are completed
· Reads and/or listens to directions, follows through on assigned task(s)
· Consistently maintains personal responsibility and integrity
B (3):
· Arrives to class on time and prepared
· May leave class for periods of 1-4 minutes at a time
· Completes assigned tasks & listens and may share ideas
· Maintains a positive attitude and is kind to others
· Works well independently with minimal assistance; cooperative
· May need an occasional reminder of verbal or written instruction
· Maintains personal responsibility and integrity
C (2):
· Unexcused tardy or comes to class unprepared
· Leaves class for periods of 5-9 minutes at a time
· Completes only assigned tasks and works with the help of others
· Positive attitude, tolerates others
· Needs to be frequently reminded of instructions and/or to stay on task
· Is reluctant to take personal responsibility; lacks integrity and pride in work
D (1):
· Unexcused tardy
· Unprepared for class & needs frequent reminding to stay on task
· Leaves class for extended periods of time (10+ minutes)
· Completes only part of the assigned task; takes little personal responsibility
· Negative attitude, disrespectful to others.
· Doesn’t follow written or verbal directions even after reminders
· Takes no personal responsibility and lacks integrity and pride in work
F (0):
· Unexcused tardy or absence
· Comes to class unprepared
· Leaves class for extended periods of time (10+ minutes)
· Disruptive; rarely or doesn’t complete assigned tasks
· Doesn’t follow written or verbal directions even after reminders
· Takes no personal responsibility and lacks integrity and pride in work.
