Refraction Lab: Bending of light
Objective: Determine the index of refraction of a few common liquids.
Procedure
1. Draw two lines on a piece of paper. Make sure they intercect at a right angle. (make the normal line dashed)
2. Draw an line crossing the the 90 degree angle where the two lines cross. .
3. Place the flat edge of the dish along one of the lines. The dashed line should bisect the dish.
4. As you look through the liquid, mark on the paper where the line appears to be on the outside edge of the dish (make mark on paper)
5. Remove the dish, connect your new line up with the start of the new surface.
6. measure your new angles and use snells law to determine the index of refraction of the liquid.
