Year Unit Plan
5 Components of
Fitness these are taught during the entire school year.
- 5 components of fitness are taught one component of
fitness is covered each week.
- Effort grade based on pedometer steps- recorded on
spreadsheet. Average is then calculated and graded. O- Outstanding (1500
steps), S-Satisfactory (1499-1000 steps) and N-Needs Improvement (999 steps or
less).
1st Quarter
Heart Rate Monitors 10% of grade
- Fifth graders take resting heart rate and determine
their target heart zone.
- Practice the heart rate monitors and then they are
graded.
Pedometers are used every day and recorded for the
effort grade
PACER Test this is the cardiovascular endurance
test taken twice a quarter by the fifth graders. Written goals are set for each
student. This is 10% of their grade
Football 40% of grade
- There are three parts to the football grade. 10 percent
of the football grade is a written test, fifteen percent of the football grade
is skill testing using rubrics that follows the criteria set up by the
curriculum, and fifteen percent of the grade is game play also assessed by a
rubric.
Soccer 40% of grade
- There are three parts to the soccer grade. 10 percent of
the soccer grade is a written test, fifteen percent of the soccer grade is
skill testing using rubrics that follow the criteria set up by the curriculum,
and fifteen percent of the grade is game play also assessed by a rubric.
2nd Quarter
Heart Rate Monitors 10% of grade
Pedometers are used every day and recorded for the
effort grade.
PACER this cardiovascular test is run twice during
the second quarter. The teacher and students review the goals that were set and
if the students have attained their goal they set new goals. 10% of their grade
Volleyball 40%
- There are three parts to the volleyball grade: ten
percent of the grade is a written test, twenty percent of the volleyball grade
is skill testing using rubrics that follow the criteria set up by the
curriculum and 10 percent of the grade is game play also assessed by a
rubric.
Basketball 40%
- There are three parts to the basketball grade: ten
percent of the grade is a written test, twenty percent of the basketball grade
is skill testing using rubrics that follow the criteria set up by the
curriculum and 10 percent of the grade is game play also assessed by a rubric.
3rd Quarter
Heart Rate Monitors 10% of grade
Pedometers are used every day and recorded for the
effort grade.
PACER Test the PACER is run twice during the third
quarter. The students review their goals that they have set. If they have
attained their goal a new goal is set. 10% of total grade
Dance 40%
- Twenty percent of the dance grade is assessed by a
rubric that assesses the correct patterns to the dances that are taught by the
teacher; twenty percent of the grade is based on a dance that the students
make up themselves using jump bands.
Racket Sport 40%
- Ten percent of the grade is based on a written test,
Fifteen percent of the grade is based on rubrics used to assess the skill
patterns that are required in the curriculum and fifteen percent of the grade
is based on a rubric that assesses the game play as specified in the
curriculum.

4th Quarter
Heart Rate Monitors 15% of grade
Pedometers are used every day and recorded for the
effort grade.
PACER this is run twice during the fourth
quarter. The students goals are reviewed for the last time and when the test
is done the teacher and students review the goals and see if the students have
attained what they have set out to do. 10% of total grade
Rollerblade 25%
- Fifteen percent of the grade is based on rubrics that
are used to assess the skills that are required as part of the curriculum, ten
percent of the grade is based on written test.
Softball 25%
- Ten percent of the grade is based on a written test;
fifteen percent of the grade is based on rubrics that assess skill level and
game play as required by the curriculum.
Frisbee Golf 25%
- Ten percent of the grade is based on a written test;
fifteen percent of the grade is based on rubrics that assess skill level and
game play as required by the curriculum.
