6th Grade Physical Education
Year Unit Plan
5 Components of Fitness are taught during the entire school year. One week is devoted to each component of fitness. A warm-up activity from the component of the week is performed during the first eight minutes of each class.
1st Quarter
Pedometers are worn during each unit steps are recorded.
Heart Rate Monitor 25% of Grade
PACER Test 10% of Grade is run twice a quarter. This is the cardiovascular endurance test that we use. Goals are set by each student for this test. Goal setting is explained by the teacher before the students set their PACER goal.
Fitness Testing Start the year with testing all students with the Trifit Computerized Fitness assessment system. The students will be tested on the following: height, weight, bicep strength, flexibility (sit and reach) and cardiovascular endurance (PACER). Students receive a printed personal profile listing the students scores and what they need to do to stay in the healthy fitness zone or how to work out outside of school to reach the healthy fitness zone. Students set personal goals for each test.

2nd Quarter
Pedometers are worn during each unit steps are recorded.
Heart Rate Monitor 25% of Grade
PACER Test 10% of Grade is run twice during the second quarter. The students review the goal they have set for the PACER before the test and if they attain their goal this quarter a new goal is set.
Volleyball 25% of grade
Volleyball Written Test 10%
Basketball 30% of grade

3rd Quarter
Pedometers are worn during each unit steps are recorded.
Heart Rate Monitor 25% of Grade
PACER Test 10% of Grade. It is run twice during the third quarter. The students goals are revisited and if they have attained their goal a new goal is set.
Dance 25% of grade
Dance Routine 10% of grade
Racket Sports (Alternate between pickleball and badminton) 30% of grade
Climbing Wall/Snowshoe not graded
4th Quarter
Pedometers are worn during each unit steps are recorded.
Heart Rate Monitor 25% of Grade
PACER Test 10% of the grade. It is run twice during the fourth quarter. The students goal for the PACER is reviewed with the teacher.
TriFit Computerized Fitness Testing: students are tested for the last time. Each student receives a printed personal profile. All goals are reviewed by the teacher and student.
Rollerblade 20% of grade
Frisbee Golf 20% of grade
Softball 15% of grade
