Overview of Rock Band Project
Step 1 Interview with a Rock Star Use this form or write your infomation in your notebook p.59 to take notes on your rock. The more info you find about your rock, the easier it will be to write your story. You can never have enough information.
Student suggestions for possible sites to use for research geology.com, Quartz quartz page comparerocks.com thank you SS and BH
Step 2 Write your rock band story. Here is a chance to show a little of your creative writing skills! You will need to take the information that you have gathered from the Tectonic Fury unit where we learned about odd geology, rock types, rock cylcle, absolute and relative dating, earth layers, plate boundaries, convection currents, etc to create an interesting story about the life of your rock. Use the events that happened to your rock (from the dice activity) in its life and a little spicyness with the facts you gathered from your class work and your "Interview with a Rock" to create this first person story. Use play on words to make your writing more interesting. Highlight your 10 facts and make sure your name is on it. PLACE IN THE SCIENCE DROPBOX when you are done.
MAKE SURE EVERYONE IN YOUR GROUP IS DONE BEFORE YOU PROCEDE TO THE NEXT STEP. SHARE YOUR WRITING WITH EACH OTHER, PEER EDIT, GIVE SUGGESTIONS, SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT TO KEEP YOUR BAND TOGETHER.

Step 3 Work with your Rock band groups to decide the type of music you would like to play. Come up with names for at least 10 songs that will be included in your next album. Vote on what song title you would like to change into your concert opener. Put a list of your songs, your concert opener song (the name of the one you will be singing) and the names of your group members in a word document in the drop box. Then go to Step 4.
STEP 4 Music Videos and Song Lyrics
This step needs for you to create a new song that will be sung by your band at your concert. It needs to have at least 3 verses and a chorus. You can model your song using the tune of another song but change all the words so that it tells about the processes that happen with rocks, plate tectonics, paths in the rock cycle, etc. You must include a minimum of 5 facts and they need to show meanings of your ideas not just randomly singing a particular vocabulary word.
Some examples of how this would look include
Rocks Rock Harder – Bill Nye music video
Cave Thing – Bill Nye music video
Weathering and Erosion Video – Bill Nye
Earth’s Crust video – Bill Nye
Volcano video – Bill Nye
Template to use for inside of cd cover . Only print off the pages that you need in order to complete that project. There are more pages than you will need. The template for the cd cover can be found in a new workd document, click new, type in the search bar "cd template" and then pick a something you can alter.
