Components
5-Minute Checks: At the beginning of each class, students will be given a quick review of the previous lesson or chapter. The 5-Minute Checks will allow the student as well as me to see what they know, as well as concepts that need to be reinforced.
Mini-Lessons: Short lessons that provide direct-instruction and guided practice of skills and strategies to solve problems will be presented each day. Each lesson will begin with a real-life situation that points out how mathematics is used in students’ everyday lives as well as in the real world around them. Connections will also be made to show how mathematics is used in other courses they are taking such as Reading, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Music, Art, and Physical Education.
Study Guides: Prior to beginning a new chapter, students will be given a Chapter Packet. The packet includes the Chapter Study Guides as well as an area for students to take notes.
Projects: Chapter Projects enable students to become more deeply engaged. Projects will provide open-ended activities that often include collecting and organizing data. This allows students the opportunity to explore, analyze, and report their results. Students will also be encouraged to use technology such as the Internet, word processing, application and publishing software, and spreadsheets.
Assessments (Tests & Quizzes): You and your child can access the Glencoe Mathematics Internet site for Mathematics: Application and Connections to find online study tools, games, and more. Go to www.glencoe.com/sec/math/mac/mac01/course3.
