The third grade musical "A Kid's Life" under the direction of Nicole Eidahl and student teacher, Ashley Brown was fabulous. The third grade students, including all the solos, Grandma (Morgan Panzenhagen) and Grandpa (Rick Marcusen) the Shout Out solos, the Charades, the Kids, The Good Time Family Band, and all the performers, were wonderful. Special thanks to the third grade teachers for your flexibility and supervision before and after the performance. We have many talented singers and dancers at GES.

GMS Staff would like to thank Carol and Julie for the great meals during our Parent/Teacher Conference nights. Thanks for all the work you do!
The patriotic heart of Mrs. Jones is unbelievable. When asked to have her students write to my nephew who is in boot camp, she had letters in my hand within 2 hours. She is a wonderful example of caring and generosity. Thanks Mrs. Jones!

This was an email sent by a former student. "I was really thankful for my high school classes again yesterday! I'm really glad I took Anatomy with Dorrow and Zoology with Schmitt. In my animal physiology class it is just assumed that you know the organs of the body and assumed that you know their functions. What we do is go into a lot of detail and learn about all of the proteins and molecules that make the organs work and keep us alive...and I think I would have a LOT of catching up to do if I wouldn't have taken Anatomy in high school. I was remembering Ms. Dorrow saying "When you get to college and start taking higher up classes, I hope that you'll hear something and it will ring a bell that you've heard it before." Yup! Also, yesterday in my animal phys lab we had to dissect a rat- and it was just assumed that you know how to dissect and that you're going to be comfortable dissecting. Good thing we did a lot of that in Zoology! I did the whole dissection for my group." This student has also often commented on how thankful she is for Janet Rowe's Spanish class, because she was more than prepared for her college Spanish class and would have struggled without Janet's help.

Madalyn Watler, a sixth grade student wanted to make her statistics project for math count for something - to make a difference. After research, collecting statistical data, and phone interviews, she chose to head a fundraiser to support the American Red Cross. During the planning stages of that fund raiser, there was an earthquake in Haiti and the need became urgent. With assistance from Kari Hoff and Braden Van Camp, Madi worked dilegently to organize a fund raiser that would grab the attention of her fellow students and raise money to help the earthquake victims in Haiti. Her efforts raised a total of $388.12. Way to go Madi!

Thank you to Dawn Olk, Lori Whitman, Bob McIntosh, Wendy Neyhard, the Guidance Department and everyone else you helped during the most recent tragedy. Without a supportive staff these kids would have been lost. Thank you for caring.
Dan Ohlmann, Associate Principal at HHS, should be recognized for the excellent job he does at HHS. He has an underappreciated job, often consisting of discipline issues. Dan is understanding, willing to listen to both sides and is dedicated to his position. He injects some humor into his work and is always pleasant and hard working. Paula Martinson is a real gem here at GES. She is such a great resource to have in our building. Paula always finds the time to retrieve information (that some of us misplace from time to time), is willing to borrow her awesome collection of professional books and read alouds, and shares her expertise with us. Paula always has the time to answer a question, and asks for input from the teachers. Thanks Paula for all of your support!

I want to applaud both Kay Motschman and Jim Johnson for their care and concern in helping our daughter. Instead of ignoring the organizational issues that she was having, the two of them worked together with our family to find out what the bigger problem was that was affecting her school performance. After a lot of extra work and communication on both of their parts, they suggested that we have her tested for attention issues. Without their guidance and knowledge, our family would have never even considered that this was the problem. Now, a few months later, our daughter has been diagnosed and we have been provided with the tools to help her succeed. Thanks to the help of Kay and Jim, she has honestly gone from a kid who dreaded school, to a kid that once again loves to learn. We cannot thank you both enough.
I would like to thank Ann Van Caster and Janice Zuege for the work they did to put together Destination Day at Hortonville Elementary School on Friday, January 29th. This is such a great way for kids to learn from the people in our community. A huge thank you also goes out to all of the presenters as well. We may never know who was touched by the information that they so willingly shared, but I know that it was meaningful to many of the students.
A special thank you to the following presenters at Hortonville Elementary's 2nd annual Destination Day, Jan. 29, 2010: our keynote speaker, Mr. Shawn Fargen, Dr. Clint Dunathan, Mrs. Maria DeLeon, Mrs. Jean Gloudemans, Mrs. Jennifer Ruis, Mr. Dean Sutton, Mr. Matt Breaker, Mr. Jeff Nault, Mr. Felix Rameriz, Mrs. Wendi Hinson, Mrs. Karen Duch, Officer Brian Bahr, Mr. Steve Shelton, Mr. Greg Forton, Mr. Scott Brielmaier, Mrs. Lisa Borowski, Mrs. Michelle Schulz, Mr. Bob Pruchnofski and the HS technology education students of Matt Koerner, Tony Cass, Derek Shlepr, and Emily Wold, Mr. Dan Mercer, Mr. Matt Stuewer, Mr. Jeremy Bellile, and Chef Josh Good. Students heard guest speakers in two of the four Kids At Hope Destinations: Home and Family, Education and Career, Hobbies and Recreation, and Community and Service. Students were able to understand the opportunities available to them in each of life's destination. A sincere thank you to each presenter for sharing your time and talent with our HES families and for believing that all children are capable of success, no exceptions.
