"I don't even know where to begin when thanking Mrs. Judy Willliams for her positive, caring interactions with our children. Whether it be talking sports with my son and friends, to making treats for my daughter and friends, to always taking a minute to say hello and acknowleding the childrens presence, to a forever smile, always making our children feel important, and for being fair and respectful.

For all our children, Mrs. Williams has provided a fun atmosphere to learn and interact in. As a parent sending my children away for the day to be cared for by others, I feel so blessed and comforted to have had Mrs. Williams in their lives. Good luck to you Mrs. Williams as you enter retirement and always know you have made a profound impact on our children. The funny and thoughtful stories brought home will be forever remembered. I can't thank you enough for enriching those around you."

“The Hortonville High School Student Council, led by Nicole Kruger and Bobbi LaBorde, has been working hard to help people in need. They recently donated a portion of the Fall Homecoming Dance profits to purchase gifts for two families, through the Salvation Army's Adopt-a-Family program. In addition, they worked with the New London High School Student Council to sponsor the third annual "Stuffed Animal Toss" at the boys' basketball game last week. Altogether, more than 200 stuffed animals were collected! These will be donated to St. Elizabeth's Hospital to bring comfort to children receiving treatment there.”

“The Hortonville High School Spirit Club would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Clint Dunathan for his very generous support of our school. Dr. Clint donated his winning half of the money collected for the Spirit Club 50/50 raffle drawing that was held at the Boys Basketball game. The money raised will be used towards promoting school spirit at HHS! GO POLAR BEARS!!”

"Deb VanDalen did a tremendous job in organizing the First Lego League (FLL)teams. She has volunteered her time to organize and oversee this wonderful program. This summer, she organized a lego league camp to give new members a glimpse of what is involved in FLL. She also hosted a local event for the teams to practice and she came out in support of the teams at competition. FLL is a program that is teaching valuable skills such as public speaking, research, working in groups and working with computer programming just to name a few. Thank you Mrs. VanDalen for all your time and dedication to this program!"

On behalf of the ELL staff and families, I would like to thank Julie Hertziger for the wonderful meal she provided at GMS for the ELL families on Monday, November 19th during the ELL Fall Family Feast. At the event, over 55 meals were served, and all with a smile! Thank you to the entire food service staff for your support at this wonderful event. It was a great way to create a connection with the families while promoting literacy in our district. We could not do it without you.

This note was received by Greg Forton, director of bands at HHS, regarding the band's performance at the Appleton Christmas parade...

Mr. Forton - I was at the Appleton Christmas Parade with my wife and two children tonight and, being a former marching band member, I was acutely aware of the marching styles of the various bands. I write to tell you that, in my opinion, your band had the most synchronized and technically sound marching style of all of the bands in the parade. I congratulate you and your students and wish you the best moving forward. Sincerely, Michael D. Rust, J.D. “The Equestrian Team was selling 50/50 raffle tickets at the last home football game against West DePere. It was a big night for football and a big night for the 50/50! There were many generous people pulling out their wallets that night for a good cause. We thank you all. The Equestrian team sold $850 in raffle tickets that night, giving the 50/50 winner $425! Immediatley upon handing the money over to the winner, HHS / GMS parent Amy Hyde, without a second thought, handed back $200 and said it was for the Equestrian Team. Wow! A big thank you to Erik Hyde for spending the initial $20 for a "horse tail" length of raffle tickets, and to Amy and the whole family for your generosity in sharing your winnings back with our club. What a wonderful thing to do. :)”

“A special thank you to Mr. Ben Schmitt for allowing my group of first graders to come and observe all of the animals in his science classroom; they loved all of them, especially the snake and iguana!”

“Congratulations and good luck to our First Lego league teams. Forty-seven HASD students spent the past two months in search of senior solutions. Using their ingenuity and working in teams, they devised ways to make the lives of our senior citizens easier and more meaningful.

Five of the eight HASD middle school First Lego League robotics teams took their solutions to competition at the Oshkosh Regional on Saturday, November 3rd. The remaining three teams will compete at the Appleton Regional next Saturday. At the Oshkosh Regional, 3 of our 5 teams earned prestigious awards. The Giga Bunch: Miranda Daane, Lauren Stae, Laken Schmidt, Alyssa Stillman, Makenna Krause, and Morgan Draheim, was nominated for several awards and took home the Innovation Award.

The Brick Bandits: Christopher Lamers, Katie Lamers, Ethan Burghardt, Caleb Derga-Prinz, Bailey Rose, Trevor Sabourin, and Connor Williams won the Mechanical Design award for their solid reliable robot. Titan Robotic, a team consisting of six eighth grade boys; Jacob Ubl, Parker Schroder, Matt Krause, Jason Nowotny, Josh Heuer, and Colton Nelson, also received several nominations and were rewarded for their skill in working as a unit winning the Teamwork Award.

Perhaps the day's most exciting news is that Titan Robotics qualified for the state completion for the second consecutive year, and will represent the Hortonville Area School District and our local sponsors in Mequon on December 8, 2012. Partnership with local businesses makes FLL possible for our students. The program in the Hortonville area School District is funded through donations and fees, and is run by volunteers.

The school district's financial support of this program would make it accessible to  more students. This year's sponsors include Wolf River Bank, Albany International, and Electroline. Volunteer coaches include Mike Ubl, Scott Lamers, Peter and Joanne Horvath, Lisa Daane, Shelly Tuchsherer, Jim Benner, Jeremy and Emmy Wilson, Jean Wagner.”

I enjoy walking into Greenville Elementary School through the Kindergarten entrance in the morning and seeing the displays of students' learning, especially the Kindergarters, Kindergartners, What do you See?

Cletus always adds smile to our days.  He is cheerful to be around and easy to talk with.  He doesn't complain, even with our unending requests and comments.  When we mention something that needs attention, it's done before we think about it again.  Thanks, Cletus!  It's our pleasure to work with you!

The PTO has been working on a drive to get GES in the top 18 for a US Cellular contest to win $50,000 to $150,000.  They also have been working extremely hard with the fall fundraiser. The PTO is visible and encouraging of the teaching staff. We are so lucky to have such an amazing PTO.

The GES staff has been rallying together to help a fellow staff member and leading fundraising efforts to help in various ways.

Also, as many changes have come down the way at the state level and district level, GES staff members (teachers, administration and support staff) are handling it all with class and grace. When stress is high we know that good things are happening for kids.  The staff at GES is full of energy and passion and it shows every day!

Kudos to IT department!  Having Samantha stop in every morning to ask if there are computer issues has been a wonderful idea.  Staff is now aware of Sam coming in and asks help right away in the morning which saves calls to the office and IT department.  Thanks Sam for all you do for us at GES!!

Hortonville High School

A huge thank you to the sophomore advisors who helped out with the fall concessions stands (volleyball AND football), especially Meghan Johnson who did both events!  Thank you for giving your time so that the sophomores will have a prom and graduation to remember in 2014 and 2015.

Kudos to the staff at HMS for the work they have done to get PBIS/The Polar Bear Way off the ground.  Our PBIS team began with a goal of launching PBIS by January.  Due to the hard work of many and the support of the full staff, HMS is well on its way to implementing components of The Polar Bear Way already this fall.  I am so incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.  It's going to be a GREAT year at HMS!

Thank you to Chris Hansen, Heidi Schmidt, Administrators and School Board members for the vision and commitment to put us on a path that will enhance our profession, challenge us to become the best educators possible, and patiently guide us in our efforts as we strive to have ALL students  achieve at the highest levels. Your leadership and belief in us is most appreciated.

Thirty-nine HASD students attended the second annual HASD First Lego League Camp at Greenville Middle School on August 20 and 21. Camp activities centered on team work in an environment of gracious professionalism. The HASD 8th grade FLL team consisting of Jacob Ubl, Parker Schroeder, Matt Krause, Colton Nelson, and Jason Nowotny acted as camp assistants and mentors to the younger teams. They designed a robot challenge table, explained the requirements of the FLL season, worked with individuals and teams, shared insight regarding competition judging, and devised and directed a last minute replacement activity when technical difficulties rendered the scheduled robot challenge impossible. It was their leadership that made FLL Camp 2012 a success.  Campers participated in team challenges, designed and built NXT robots, created team banners, and learned to keep moving forward despite obstacles. Several individuals, parents, and coaches volunteered time to make camp possible including but not limited to Mary Claypool, Jean Wagner, Lisa Daane, Rita Nowotny, and Jenna Weyenberg.
