Erin Edwards and Janet Rowe presented for the WAFLT (Wisconsin Association for Foreign Language Teachers) conference held in Appleton last Friday. The title was “Bring the World to Your Students; Take Your Students to the World!” They discussed ways to take learning beyond the classroom through methods such as collaborating with other educators, implementing cross-curricular units, and utilizing technology. The description which was printed in the booklet reads- “Engage students in relevant projects that foster global awareness and real language use. Learn strategies for all levels using Web 2.0 technologies, service projects, collaboration, and cross-curricular lessons. Take language learning beyond the classroom to the school, local, and global communities.” Kudos to Erin and Janet for sharing what they do with other World Language teachers in the state!

I would like to thank the Hess Family for their donations to the art department over many years. We have received rulers, crafts supplies and many plastic containers. The donations are greatly appreciated!
Students in 7th grade constructed awesome scrapbooks paralleling their lives to that of a well known author. The students put a ton of time and effort into these projects adding illustrations and interesting facts. This project utilized the writing process to create different forms of writing as well as incorporating research skills. The scrapbooks will certainly make a great keepsake for the students.
A big Thank you to the 8th grade class for treating others with respect, especially those who need a little extra help carrying materials and needing extra time to move throughout the hallways. So many of you are willing to offer a helping hand without being asked or rewarded in any way. It is so encouraging to watch! Way to go; we are proud of you!

Congratulations to 3rd grader, Michael Jarvis, 4th grader, Ariana Holzem, and 5th grader, Stephanie Jarvis, for their outstanding performance at the USATF Regional Cross-Country meet on Saturday, November 7 at Parkside. Both Michael and Ariana placed 1st and Stephanie took 3rd, qualifying for the National meet in Reno, Nevada on Dec. 12th. Way to go, and good luck in December!

It has been a pure joy to work with Mrs. Nancy Stoinski and Mrs. Stephanie Clarke! They are always willing to help out when their students are in another teacher's room. They also take the time to reinforce things that have been taught by other teachers. I appreciate them going the extra mile to ensure that their students are performing to the best of their abilities. Keep up the good work ladies!!!
Special thanks to Jolene Mowrer, Ceci Besaw, and Marilyn Rankin for all the hard work in planning and working with the children in presenting a special Veteran's Day program. We had about 100 guests in attendance and I'm sure they were touched by the children's performance. Thanks to the classroom teachers, too, for reminding students to wear red, white, and blue, and for their wonderful participation and flag waving! HES staff is the best!
Ann VanCaster does an amazing job working with parents, teachers and students at HES. Ann, thank you for always making yourself available and for supporting us through the many issues we face.
I would like to to thank all of the teachers here at HES for working together to help each other successfully finish our first round of report cards using Skyward. There were so many bumps in the road and yet we all helped one another successfully get to the finish line on time! It is great working with people who care enough about one another to take the time to help each other when there is a need. No matter how busy we get, we need to continue this practice...that is what makes our staff special.

Congratulations to Mrs. Karen Koss and her Sociology classes for hosting the "Toy Swap" on Saturday, November 7. What a great way to recycle toys and help out the community. Hats off to you for all the planning and time involved.
Carol Kaddatz, secretary in the high school counseling center, is to be highly commended. After returning to her position in September, following a leave of many weeks, and missing nearly all of the Skyward training sessions, she has done what Carol always does. She jumped in feet first and was up and running in no time. She can always be counted on to either provide necessary information, or she will direct you to the individual that can. Carol is not just a great person to know, she is a terrific person to work with, and with a warm smile on her face, can always be counted on to get the job done. Thank you Carol!
I am so impressed with the collaboration that goes on at Hortonville High School. Last week I needed to make some curriculum changes to one of my classes, and Kris Zullner, Carrie Eiting, and Lindsay Fabry all made time in their busy days to provide advice and support. Thank you so much ladies!
There are students involved in a work experience. Cambria Suites in Appleton had provided us with an excellent site for the first quarter. We would like to acknowledge all those at Cambria Suites for making this possible. However, their budget only allowed them to take on extra staff for the first quarter. Mrs. Jen Kalwitz has gone out of her way seeking employment opportunities for these students. Besides being an excellent aide in the classroom, Jen has demonstrated the true level of professionalism with her initiative. The students are lucky to have you.
I would like to recognize Eric Brattlund. Eric, a high school cross-country runner, came to the "Run for the Health of It" fun run on Saturday morning and encouraged many of the young runners. He ran the 5K himself, but once he was finished he met up with many of the middle school runners and ran the last 400 meters with them, encouraging them the whole way. Thanks Eric!

Great job to Mrs. Gorwitz and Mrs. Sutton for the organization of our first HMS 5K run FOR THE HEALTH of IT Saturday November 7th. The Running Club has been a great success for the students who have been involved. I would also like to thank Mr. Hall, Mrs. McMorrow, Ms. Krynock, Mr. Nault and Mrs. Zuege for working or participating in the 5k run and supporting our students. Thanks again for what you do for the students at Hortonville Middle School.
I would like to thank Marcia Streicher for her work on the Movin and Munchin program. At HMS our principal, Mr. Brattlund, is traveling to different countries every week depending on the mileage accumulated. Marcia volunteers each week to make the outfit that Mr. Brattlund will be wearing on his travels. The students can't wait to see where Mr. Brattlund will be traveling and what he will be wearing each week. The movin and munchin program would not be the success it is without Mrs. Streicher!
HMS is so fortunate to have Dan Taycher on our team. If you ever go to Dan for a computer question, whether it is BIG or small, Dan will help to find the solution. Dan: Thanks for making our lives a little less stressful!!
