Hortonville Middle School is a fifth through eighth grade middle school nestled in the heart of the Fox Valley of Northeastern Wisconsin. Our school includes over 470 of the best and brightest students in Wisconsin. Within our campus includes the Fox West Academy charter school program. Our staff includes over 50 caring and dedicated individuals who are focused on raising student achievement, making learning come alive, and building positive relationships with all students.
HMS operates using the middle school philosophy and approach to working with young adolescents. Each grade level consists of a team of core academic teachers and exploratory teachers. Core academic teachers meet daily for what is called “team time” to discuss curriculum, instructional techniques, explore ways to increase student achievement, and look for ways to assist all students in their learning and growth.
During the 2012-2013 school year, our staff will be spending extensive time focusing on what is known as Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). After exploring the PLC framework this year, both teachers and I will seek and share learning in a more systematic fashion than ever before. After sharing and learning from one another, it will be our goal to act upon what we have learned to make HMS better than ever for the sake of all of our students.
Also during the coming school year, members of the staff, Mrs. Zuege, and I will focus on implementing a framework called Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS). The purpose of PBIS is to make our school-wide expectations extremely clear for all of our students by spending more time teaching these expectations throughout the school year. By taking a more proactive approach, our students will have a clearer understanding of what we expect from them and likewise, our teachers will regain valuable instructional time within the classroom. You will learn more about PBIS throughout the school year.
I am extremely delighted to join the Hortonville Middle School staff this year as your child’s Principal.
