The National Middle School Association's position paper, This We Believe, recommends an adult advocate for every child. As a result, in 2008 we created a program known as SMART Start. The purpose of SMART Start is to foster positive relationships between students and staff. SMART Start allows faculty members to be advocates for the students. 5th and 6th graders are grouped with their homeroom teacher. Our SMART Start program in 7th and 8th grade groups 10-12 students with one teacher who meet daily from 7:55 - 8:10. SMART Start acitivities include lessons in character education, physical fitness, academic and behavioral goal setting, and opportunities to have fun which promote positive realtionships. Contact our guidance counselor Jeff Nault or any teacher for more information regarding SMART Start.
