The Hortonville High School Jazz Ensemble is a select group of students that study the many characteristics of the modern day jazz band. These students are chosen through a blind audition, rehearse at 7:00am two days a week, and participate in several concerts/festivals throughout the school year. The students are expected to advance through a series of techniques to improve their understanding of various musical styles as well as improvisation.
The Hortonville High School Jazz Ensemble has reached a new level and the students have been playing better than ever. They took first place at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Jazz Festival and had a spectacular performance during this year's Night of Big Band Jazz. We couldn't let this year get by without having a professional recording made, so we hired Mike Twombly from the Thompson Hill Studios to come and record the students on stage. The soloists went into the studio to record their individual tracks. The results are amazing. Please enjoy these MP3 recordings. If you want a CD of these recordings, they can be purchased in the band offices. The high quality of the CD is outstanding.
