Summer Sectionals
Sectionals are rehearsals for all band members to learn and memorize the music for the marching season. They will be held in the HHS band room. For incoming freshman who are unable to attend the band camps, they will be taught to march during the Freshman Band classes once school starts. (Trying to catch up can be difficult; everyone should try to attend all events.)
Incoming Freshman Pre-Camp - Incoming freshmen are required to attend the SUMMER BAND Pre-CAMP at Hortonville High School from 9am – 1pm. During this camp students will learn the marching basics. They are asked to wear lace-up tennis shoes and bring instruments.
Regular Summer Band Camp Time: 9am-3pm
All band members should attend. During this camp all members learn the music, marching, and routines for the marching season. Section leaders are determined. Students are provided a lunch. The culmination of band camp will be to march in the Wisconsin State Fair opening day parade and a concert in front of the Expo Center. All students who participate in the Summer Band Camp may attend.
HHS Marching Bands
All high school band students are in the HHS Marching Band. The band plays during half time at all Hortonville home football games. It is a requirement that all band members participate. Please see the website for schedule.
After marching band season, the Freshman Band as well as the upper classmen will perform at the Christmas Concert, Midwinter Concert, Spring Concert, Appleton Christmas Parade, Concert Festival, Memorial Day Parade/Ceremony, and the HHS Graduation Ceremony.
Pep Band
During basketball season, all band students are invited to participate in the HHS Pep Band. The Pep Band is made up of volunteer members of the HHS band and its alumni. They are a highly energized group of musicians who help spread the Hortonville Polar Bear School Spirit among the fans. They play in between the JV and Varsity boys and girls home games, as well as during half time of the Varsity game. Dates for the home basketball games can be found on the HHS website.
Jazz Ensemble
During the first week of school, students receive music and information regarding jazz ensemble auditions. They will rehearse for one week as a full group and then participate in a blind audition to determine chair placement and eligibility in the HHS Jazz Ensemble. The Ensemble participates in all scheduled concerts, festivals, community events, and the Annual Jazz Benefit Dance. The Jazz Ensemble will have additional required trips/festivals.
Band Uniforms
Band members will be fitted for band uniforms during band camp or during the HHS Open House in August. There are two types of uniforms: 1) Marching and Concert Uniform – this includes pants, jacket, overlay, gloves, cummerbund, bow tie, and shoes. This uniform is the property of the school and is kept at school. Students are also required to provide calf-height black socks and a white collared dress shirt. Students arriving to a performance without proper black socks will be given a pair and charged $4.00. The Summer Uniform – this includes a pair of black shorts and white polo shirt. Summer uniforms are distributed by the school, but are owned by the student and kept at home. Students can wear any comfortable tennis shoes with the Summer Uniform (White, Black, Gray, or Red prefered).

Band Trips
Every year, the HHS Band plans a trip. All band members are welcome to attend. Small trips and large trips are selected on a rotating basis to allow students ample fundraising opportunities. Some previous trips have included: Mackinac Island, Nashville, Chicago, Europe, Hawaii, and Washington D.C.
Volunteer Opportunities
It takes an army of volunteers to keep the band looking great. A huge thank you to all those parents who diligently help! We need help with Band Camp: food prep, uniform fitting and uniform repair and hemming. We also need help throughout the year with uniform check-in and check-out before and after football games and concerts. Please contact us if you want to be part of the team. BreannaWozniczka@hasd.org
