Summer School Highlights
The school year moving along, but summer class sessions are right around the corner at HASD. Various opportunities are available this year for elementary aged students. Summer school courses focus on improving elementary literacy, writing, art, math and technical education skills, along with continued social development of each student.
We now have thirty classes that will be taught at Greenville Elementary School this summer – a few new courses added include "Songs to Enhance Literacy," using music to expose children to the wonderful powers of reading, and “German Fun,” emphasizing German culture and heritage. A few notable courses that are once again back with us this summer are "Passport to Adventure," "Spanish: A Summer Fiesta", "Take a Roller Coaster Ride," and "Bookin' and Cookin'."
Core classes include "Reading for Success" which is designed to target literacy skills using directive, research-based approaches that follow our school year literacy framework, "Math for Success,” and "Learning Behaviors & Social Skills" for our early elementary children. In addition to our standard classroom courses taught, “Mad Scientist” is back focusing on both physical science and chemistry experiments along with “On with the Show,” emphasizing singing, dancing, and musical games.
At the middle level, children challenge their inner Sherlock Holmes in a new course called “CSI: Greenville” along with a few favorites from last year such as “Taste, Create and Explode Science” and “Wisconsin Backyard Sports,” as well as “Building a Candy Dispenser,” one of our technical education class.
A two-week long summer camp themed Polar Bear Literacy Camp will take place from July 31 - August 11 to assist students struggling in reading and writing, preparing them for those subjects in the upcoming school year. This course will be invitation only.
Instructors are busy planning for record enrollment of students with a free shuttle bus once again available to transport students from Hortonville Elementary School to Greenville Elementary School.
