String Vector Lab
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Pre Lab activity instructions
vector A: 15 m/s 25N of E at an azimuth of 35 degrees.
Determine the components X,Y,Z (ijk) for vector A.
Instructions:
Vector B is given to you on the table. Manually determine the components with the following instructions.
1. Locate a lab station where you find a string positioned in a 3 dimensional manner.
- Using a piece of scrap paper create an X-Y relative grid. Do this by simply using a single piece of paper with an X-Y axis placed (taped) on the table under the string vector.
3. The string can represent any vector. In this lab we will use velocity as our vector type. 1cm = 1m/s. Using a protractor and ruler give a directional name for this vector.
4. With the ruler determine the value of each vector component. X,Y, XY and Z. (i, j, ij, k)
Combine the vectors and build a resultant
1. Add your vector components.
2. Using trig functions, determine your XY angle, Magnitude and azimuth.
3. Create a new directional name for your new resultant vector.
Have your calculations checked and turn them in.?
