Basic Programming Skills Challenge:
Day 1: Try out the Mindstorms program.
** Basic directions are found in the Lab Binder at your station.
Create a 1 minute program that you are going to have your robot accomplish. Using graph paper, draw to scale the challenge field. Determine what you would like to have your robot do, and make a map that will depict which direction the robot will going, how far, how many turns, etc. All robots will have to demonstrate forward, backward and a turning motion.
Anything else you add to your program will just make it that much more interesting for the judges to watch. Remember if it is not working it is not the fault of the robot. It will literally do what you tell it to do. You may need to problem solve to fix it.
Day 2: Work on your program fine tune it and test it.
Day 3: Present your program to the class.
Expectations:
- Stay with your group.
- Work together and listen to each person’s ideas.
- Handle the robots with care, do not take them apart.
- Only run the robots on the testing boards.
- Do not stand or walk on the testing boards, keep them clean.
- Make sure they are plugged in to keep them charged.
- Clean up after yourself. USB download cords need to go back into the red box, plug the robot in, push in chairs and stools.
