According to the Wisconsin State Standards and district policy, your child must master each of the 6th Grade HASD Essential Standards.
This year, we will be working on the following essential standards:
MP.1 Make sense of problems and persevere in solving problems.
MP.6 Attend to precision.
6.G.A.1 Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
6.RP.A.1 Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities.
6.RP.A.2 Understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to find proportionate ratios when solving real world problems.
6.NS.B.3 Fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation.
6.EE.B.7 Solve real-world and mathmatical problems by writing and solving equations of the form x+p=q and px=q for cases in which p, q, and x are all nonnegative rational numbers.
Throughout the year, my goal is to work collaboratively as a team.
As a part of this team, your child should:
As a parent, you can:
-
Have a dialogue with your child on what they are learning
-
Provide real-world examples
-
Check-in with your child to make sure they are completing practice work/iReady
-
Communicate with the teacher about any successes and concerns regarding your child
As your child's teacher, I will:
-
Provide support for your child in the classroom as needed
-
If reteaching on the essential standards is necessary, I will support your child with small group instruction during class time
-
If additional reteaching is required, I will provide WIN time for your child to work on target practice
-
Communicate with you about any successes and concerns regarding your child
If we take this team approach, I am confident your child will have a successful and enjoyable year in 6th grade!
