Welcome to Fifth Grade!
Dear Families,
Welcome to another great school year! I am pleased that your child is in my class this year. I am looking forward to working with you and your child to provide the best educational opportunities possible.
Since I will be working with your child, I would like to take this opportunity to tell you few things about myself both personally and professionally. Family time is most important to me. I love spending time with my two very active boys. I also enjoy outdoor activities especially taking walks, hunting, fishing, and golfing. I received my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and Learning Disabilities from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. This is my 15th year teaching 5th grade at Greenville Middle School. Last but not least, I love teaching!
I have many exciting plans in store for my students. Parents are the most important people in a child’s life, and we need to work together for the benefit of your child. I need you to support my expectations, academic procedures, homework policies, and discipline efforts at school. In return, I will keep you informed about aspects of your child’s experiences at school through letters and conferences. With school and home working together, I know that each student can have the most successful year.
My classroom is a positive and respectful learning environment. My priority is for each one of the students to enjoy learning and succeed. I pride myself in using different strategies in teaching to make learning fun. I take my time to teach each lesson thoroughly and give students work time during class to get started and get assistance from me if needed on assignments.
In this packet you will find some forms to read with your child about expectations that will be used throughout the school year, please save a copy for further reference but sign and return the bottoms. Also attached are some forms for you to fill out. Please read through all carefully and return the necessary forms and signatures as soon as possible. I greatly appreciate it. I’m looking forward to your support and involvement this year. It means a great deal to me.
Again, welcome to another school year. I hope you are just as excited as I am for a year filled with lots of learning and fun. If you ever have any questions, concerns, or suggestions please feel free to contact me. The school’s telephone number is 757-7140. You can reach me directly by calling 757-7159 ext. 51100, my classroom is A100, or my e-mail address is melissakluck@hasd.org. Let’s have a great year together!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Melissa Kluck

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
1. Respect yourself and others
2. Be responsible
3. Do your best at all times
4. Be ready to learn
5. Treat others as you’d like to be treated
6. Be fair, honest, and have good manners
Following these expectations will make our classroom a fun and safe place for learning.
Students should read daily at home and may have homework to complete. I feel that parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, I ask that parents make homework a top priority, provide necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, set a daily homework time, provide praise and support, encourage children not to avoid homework, and contact me with problems.
Students have an assignment notebook to write homework and happenings in and are required to use it daily and get a parent signature nightly. Assignment notebooks are a wonderful communication between home and school. Feel free to communicate with me whenever needed throughout the year in the assignment notebook.
In addition, I will send Skylerts with important upcoming information.
The students can bring a healthy snack for themselves everyday. We will have snack time everyday mid morning to keep our brains energized.
