8th grade Spanish is the first full-year Spanish course offered to students in the Hortonville Area School District. Classes meet every day, all year long.
8th grade Spanish students explore the Spanish language and the Spanish-speaking world, with a focus on the geography, art, and culture of Mexico and Spain. In this course students will learn to express their ideas about school, their daily routine, household chores, what they like to do during their free time, and what they've done in the past. Assessments involve interpreting both spoken and written Spanish, formal speaking and writing, and spontaneous conversations.
8th grade Spanish is a high school level course offered to 8th graders as an overload option. Students who choose to study a World Language in 8th grade will NOT have a study hall. As such, this course is considered 'advanced' (think of it as an honors level 8th grade course) at the 8th grade level and is best suited for highly motivated learners with strong organizational skills. The curriculum is a blend of the Beginning Spanish (Novice 1) and Developing Spanish (Novice 2) courses taught at Hortonville High School. Students who successfully complete 8th grade Spanish (passing Semester 1 and 2 with a Near MAstery or higher in ALL power standards) will earn one high school elective credit, and have the potential to complete five-six years of language study before graduation.
