This course is an exploration and preparation course for students who have a potential career interest either in working with children within the childcare industry or in a professional or technical career. The curriculum includes learning centers, curriculum planning, teaching techniques, health, safety, nutrition, and developmentally appropriate activities. The child care industry is explored using lessons on staffing, licensing, room arrangements, safety and center relations. A preschool simulation and off-campus observations will give students opportunities to investigate related careers. This course is offered as a 2 period block.
Students who obtain an overall C grade (73%) and 85% attendance may become certified as Assistant Child Care Teachers through the Department of Public Instruction.
Students who complete this transcripted course may receive three Fox Valley Technical College credits for the Health, Safety, and Nutrition course to be used in the Early Childhood associates degree program. If they obtain the ACCT certification they may recieve three additional credits through FVTC.
