World Language in Elementary
A unique opportunity for your child
HASD is proud to offer a World Language program to all elementary students in the district. This unique program has been shown to positively impact student achievement. Research-based evidence states:
- Early language learning improves cognitive abilities
- Early language learning is beneficial in the development of students’ reading abilities.
- Language study improves problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- There is a correlation between language learning and a student’s ability to hypothesize in science.
- Language learners develop a more positive attitude toward the target language and/or the speakers of that language.
These are just a few of the ways our HASD children are benefitting from learning a second language early in their schooling. The research is strong in support of early second language acquisition.

Our students have a wonderful opportunity to learn a second language at such a young age in our district. We have built our curriculum to be exploratory with both language and culture, preparing students for a global society, while having fun and engaging in many communicative activities.
Here are some links of general vocabulary games and skills that your child might enjoy exploring on his/her own.
