About 7th Grade German
Seventh graders at HASD are required to study a language, either Spanish or German. These courses meet every other day, all year long. 7th grade German students at HMS continue building on language concepts studied in 2nd through 6th grade and prepare a foundation for advanced courses.
7th grade German is the last year that students at HASD are required to take a world language. (It is optional in 8th grade and beyond.) The 7th grade World Language curriculum begins introducing students to concepts traditionally taught in a first-year high school level course. This 7th grade year is very important for building a foundation if students wish to continue German in 8th grade.
The 8th grade World Language curriculum is a continuation of 7th grade World Language. As such, demonstrating proficiency in 7th grade standards is a pre-requisite for enrollment in 8th grade World Language. Students will be held accountable to this standard whether we are learning online or in the classroom.
At the end of the 7th grade school year, recommendations are made regarding placement into 8th grade World Language. This recommendation will be based on 7th grade World Language Standards. All students must demonstrate Mastery in these Power Standards by the end of the year to successfully complete the 7th grade World Language course. Students wishing to continue to 8th grade World Language will demonstrate Mastery in all standards, both powered and non-powered.
