Planners
Students will use their planners to reecord daily work, homework assignments and any important messages that need to be shared at home. I will check student planners daily. I ask that parents look at the planner nightly and initial it. Your child benefits significantly from your involvment and support of their learning and responsibility. Planners are also an ideal location for you to jot a quick note about any questions you may have or short updates that you'd like to share. Fundamentally, planners are an important daily responsibility for students to bring home and return to school. This is such a valuable tool that helps facilitate student learning and communication, as well as, strengthen student's independent learning habits.

Reading for 100 minutes per week:
I ask that students read 100 minutes a week and parents initial those calendar entries. I’ve found with my students, and my own children, that 20-minute increments at this age is very manageable and enjoyable. I also know that sometimes our schedules get a little crazy and hope that you will work with your child to find the best routine over the course of a week, so they can feel successful. Your child may read independently or out-loud to a family member. Student’s library books, books at home, magazines, and guided reading books (when appropriate) will offer varied reading opportunities. As we progress through guided reading, students will have assignments to read and respond to text. Students are welcome to record the time they spend on their guided reading work on their calendars. Reading outside of school is one of the most important activities our children can do to practice what they are learning, increase vocabulary, improve fluency and accuracy, increase stamina, and develop the habit and love of reading.
