Hortonville High School
Parking Lot Regulations
The Hortonville High School parking lot is private and is subject to the rules and regulations set forth by the school. Those students who choose to use the school's lot are required to follow the rules issued by school authorities. Failure to do so may result in the loss of parking privileges.
1. Students parking at school must purchase a parking permit tag from the high school office. The tag may be used in any vehicle the student drives, and should be hung from the rearview mirror when the vehicle is parked at school. Cars without parking tags are subject to towing. Purchased permits not picked up from the office, or not clearly displayed in the vehicle are not valid. It is the student’s responsibility to pick up the pass if purchased electronically. It is not valid until displayed.
2. The student-designated parking lot is located on the east side of the building. Staff and visitor parking areas are marked. Cars parked in restricted areas (visitor or staff parking) or in violation of indicated markings are subject to towing and ticketing from the Hortonville Police Department.
3. Using the school parking lot is a privilege that can be taken from the student who is found violating parking lot rules. Instances of violation may be referred to the proper law enforcement officials.
4. All students must obey general parking lot safety rules including driving at a reasonable speed and no aggressive or unsafe driving.
5. Weapons are not allowed in vehicles parked in the school’s parking lot. A student who knowingly possesses any gun, knife, dangerous object, or any other object that may be considered a weapon on school grounds, will be referred to the proper law enforcement officials and may be recommended to the Board of Education for Expulsion. Firearms, archery equipment, and knives for the purpose of hunting before or after school are not exempt from this policy. Refer to Policy #5771 in the student handbook.
6. Hortonville High School, for the safety and wellbeing of its students, operates as a closed campus. This means that students are to remain on school grounds from the time they arrive in the morning until school has been dismissed for the day. The parking lot is off limits to students during the day without administrator approval. This includes during lunch and study halls. If a student is in the parking lot during their scheduled school day, disciplinary actions may be taken.
7. Students are not permitted to take their vehicles from the parking lot once it has been parked unless prior permission has been received from Student Services. Students leaving school grounds at any time during the school day without permission from both a parent and the Students Services or Main Office personnel, are subject to consequences in accordance with the HHS Student Handbook.
8. Any student that leaves campus alone or with another student(s), either in a vehicle or on foot and without permission from school authorities, will be referred to the proper law enforcement officials for violation of State Statute 948-45 – Contributing to Truancy, or 118.15 – Habitual Truancy.
9. Vehicles driven to school should be kept locked at all times. Students are urged to refrain from leaving money or valuables in their unattended vehicles, even when the vehicles are locked. The Hortonville Area School District is not responsible for damage or loss of property.
10. Hortonville High School Administrators, when reasonable suspicion exists, have the right to conduct vehicle searches.
