We are so excited to get this season underway and share our love for the greatest sport out there with your students! The focus of our season is to build a community of runners who demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship and persevere to meet personal running goals. Through positivity and a strong work ethic we will have an amazing season together. This year the Hortonville Area School District will be sponsoring 6th-8th graders for cross country.
Practices
- 3:00 - 4:15pm Monday-Friday @ GMS unless otherwise notified
- HMS and FWA students will be released from class at 2:20 and the bus will leave for GMS at 2:30 for practice each day.
- It is important for students to attend all practices in order to grow in their running abilities and prepare for upcoming meets! If a student is unable to attend a practice or meet, he/she MUST communicate their absence to one of the coaches. We would love this communication to come directly from the student whenever possible
What to Expect
- Team-oriented dynamic warm-ups/ cool-downs
- Stretching and flexibility work
- Core work
- Interval training
- Endurance training
- Hill workouts
- Team building games
- Coaching on proper running form
- FUN!!! Workouts tailored to runners of all ability levels :)
Meets
- Race distances range from 1.5 miles to 2 miles depending on the invite
- We ask that all athletes attempt to stay for the entire meet to support and cheer on their teammates.
- Athletes not riding the bus to or home from meets will need a travel release form signed by the athletic director and on file in the school office prior to the day of the meet.
- All meets will only have one pickup location - Parents will need to pick up athletes at GMS after each meet
Running Gear/Uniforms
- Tennis shoes or proper footwear for practice
- Each athlete will be given a uniform top. They will wear it on race days with their choice of black shorts.
- We encourage students to wear a watch to practice if they have one! This will be especially helpful on days we do intervals or timed runs. A smart watch (or any watch with a GPS) is okay for practices, but will not be allowed for meets.
