Public Notification of Nondiscrimination Policy
It is the policy of the Hortonville Area School District that no person be denied admission to any public school in this district or be denied participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be discriminated against in any curricular, extracurricular, pupil service, recreational or other program or activity because of the person's sex, race, religion, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital or parental status, sexual orientation or physical, mental, emotional or learning disability as required by section 118.13 of the statutes. This policy also prohibits student discrimination under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (sex), Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (race, color, national origin), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (handicap) and Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (disability).
Children of homeless individuals and unaccompanied homeless youth (youth not in the physical custody of a parent/guardian) residing in the District shall have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including comparable services, as provided to other children and youth who reside in the District. Homeless children and youth shall not be required to attend a separate school or program for homeless children and shall not be stigmatized by school personnel
The Hortonville Area School District shall provide appropriate educational services or programs for students who have been identified as having a handicap or disability, regardless of the nature or severity of the handicap or disability. The District shall also provide for the reasonable accommodation of a student’s sincerely held religious beliefs with regard to examinations and other academic requirements. Requests for religious accommodations shall be made in writing and approved by the building principal.
The Hortonville Area School District encourages informal resolution of complaints under this policy. A formal complaint resolution procedure is available, however, to address allegations of violations of the student nondiscrimination policy in the School District.

Retaliation against anyone who, in good faith, makes a report of harassment or discrimination, files a complaint of harassment or discrimination, serves as a witness, or participates in an investigation or grievance process is also a violation of the District’s nondiscrimination policy and is prohibited.
Any person who wishes to make a complaint of discrimination or harassment in the District’s education program or activity may contact the District’s Compliance Officer(s) and/or may fill out a Discrimination and/or Harassment Report Form and return to the District’s Compliance Officer(s).
Non Discrimination on the Basis of Sex
The Hortonville Area School District does not discriminate on the basis sex, including on the basis of sex stereotypes, sex characteristics, pregnancy or related conditions, sexual orientation, and gender identity, in any education program or activity that it operates. The District complies with Title IX and its implementing regulations and the District’s Title IX policy can be found in Board Policy 2262.

The District’s Title IX Coordinators will coordinate efforts to comply with and carry out the District’s Title IX nondiscrimination responsibilities, and questions regarding the District’s nondiscrimination commitments, as well as related laws, regulations, and District policies may be referred to the Title IX Coordinators. Additionally, to report information about conduct that may constitute sex discrimination, including sex-based harassment, or to make a complaint of
sex discrimination, please contact the District’s Title IX Coordinator(s) and/or fill out a Title IX Complaint and provide the Title IX Complaint to the District’s Title IX Coordinator(s).
Additionally, the District has designated confidential employees, for purposes of Title IX.
Bullying
The District is committed to providing a safe, positive, productive, and nurturing educational environment and therefore prohibits bullying directed against a student. The District’s policy on bullying can be found in Board Policy 5517.01.
If anyone believes that a student has been bullied, they are encouraged to report the alleged bullying to the building principal, assistant principal, or the District Administrator verbally or by filling out this Bullying Complaint Form and providing to the building principal, assistant principal, or District Administrator.
