Sometimes our families and students with unique needs might feel isolated. Our Family Liaisons are part of the team to ensure this does not happen. We welcome you to reach out to any member of our team or to our school special education team as well, if you are in need of support.
Our Purpose To empower and support families of students with special needs by fostering inclusivity, providing education on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and offering guidance through the special education process. Our goal is to ensure families feel equipped, informed, and connected, so no one navigates this journey alone. We are committed to building a collaborative community where parents and guardians can access the resources, advocacy, and encouragement they need to help their children thrive.

Hi! My name is Daphne Van Buren. I am married, and we have 2 children. I have been a parent of at least one child with an IEP within HASD for the past 15 years - both for speech services and a neurodivergent condition. It was the “invisible” neurodivergent condition that was the most challenging and least straight-forward to navigate through, as well as the most isolating to us as parents. While working through our ups and downs, were not aware of this position, and felt like we were frequently trying to make sense of what was going on and trying to figure out the next step. In this position, I am excited to hear from others who have questions or concerns within the system, share my experiences to hopefully help alleviate some of the fear and frustration. In addition, I’d like to identify ways to help those in the system feel less alone. If you have any questions, concerns or ideas, please feel free to contact me.

Greetings Families! My name is Jamie Plutz and I am one of the Special Education Parent Liaisons this year. As a neurodivergent myself raising distinctly unique and amazing little neurodivergents, I am excited to bring my insight and passion to the position. I have three children in the HASD and know from experience the variety of emotions that can arise as families navigate through the IEP process. I hope to bring encouragement, support, and resources to families whenever possible. In addition to validating family's feelings and concerns as they proactively participate in their child's educational journey. I also look forward to working with this great team as we advocate to build community and inclusivity for all students with diverse learning needs.
