Our literacy workshops consist of the following three areas:
Reader's Workshop
This workshop begins with a short mini-lesson related to a skill/strategy that students can apply to their reading. After the mini-lesson, students will work on independent reading, guided reading, or writing about their reading. This workshop wraps up with a share time that connects back to our mini-lesson.
Writer's Workshop
Writer's workshop also begins with a short mini-lesson. Students then have time to apply this new learning to the pieces of writing that they are crafting. We will continue to work on using the writing proces which involves brainstorming ideas, drafting, revising, conferencing, editing, and publishing. A variety of writing genres will continue to be developed with a focus on informational writing, narrative writing, and opinion/persuasive writing.
Language/Word Study
Language/Word Study involves students observing and listening to the patterns and sounds they notice in words. Students then work to apply this to their reading and writing.
