Literacy Collaborative
Literacy Collaborative is a framework of teaching strategies and
organization designed to meet the needs of students at all levels. It is composed
of three parts: reading workshop, writing workshop, and language word study.
Reading
A Reading Workshop begins with a mini lesson to te whole class. Then, the teacher
meets with small guided reading groups while the rest of the class is reading independently
using self selected "Just Right" books.
Guided reading groups are formed based on your child's reading needs. After students
are taught how to choose appropriate materials for independent reading, guided reading
will begin. Children will experience a growing number of strategies to help them grow as
readers. Books read in guided reading are about a level above what they are reading
independently.
