Your child's safety at school is our #1 priority in the Hortonville Area School District. School administrators and staff are working harder than ever to ensure a safe school environment, and working on our safety procedures in the event of any emergency or crisis situation.
Secure Entrances - Every building in the district now has secure entrances. While we enjoy and encourage visitors throughout the school day, parents and guests must request entry at each main entrance BEFORE being allowed to enter. All doors are also locked throughout the school day to prevent any unwelcome guests. Staff have access to the building via key fob to alleviate the need for leaving entrances open if taking students outdoors for any reason.
When guests arrive at our building entrances, we will be using our new Raptor Visitor Management System. Raptor replaces manual paper-based logs, and allows schools and facilities to produce customized visitor badges and electronically scheks persons against sexual offender databases and any locally entered private alerts. The overall goal is to better control access to any HASD school/facility during school hours, and providing peace of mind for students and staff inside and concerned parents.
The Raptor system will accept all state licenses, state identification cards, green cards, passports and some military cards. Parents and visitors will only need to present their IDs once, as the system stores information within its database.
Student and staff safety is of our highest concern.
Emergency and Crisis Planning - The HASD Safety Team recently updated its Emergency and Crisis Plan, which has been approved by the Board of Education. Each building and the district has an Emergency Response Team, which will respond to any crisis using National Incident Management System protocols. This summer, staff, administrators, and area first reponders participated in a first-of-its-kind School Safety Institute at HMS. The event included a review of safety procedures and 'table top' exercises to ensure our preparedness.
Emergency 'Go Kits' - Each HASD classroom will now have an emergency 'go kit'. Go kits will be used in the event of severe weather, evacuation, or extensive lockdown situation. Go kits include first aid kits, drinking water, emergency blankets, paper and pens, and toilet paper. While we hope to never use these go kits, the HASD Safety Team wants to ensure that our teacher are prepared to keep your child safety and secure.
Updated Video Survellience - Video survellience systems at each building have been upgraded over the past two years to further ensure a safe school environment.
Two-Way Radio Communication - Administrators and select staff at each HASD building now have two-way radio communication for any emergency situation. The HASD is also the first school district in Outagamie County to have a direct communication link to county dispatch in the event of a major crisis situation. The HASD appreciates the support of the Outagamie County Sheriff's Department and county dispatch for their support of this safety tool.
