Please check here occasionally for updates regarding information about our classroom. I will also post science and social studies notes for you to use as you help your child prepare for tests. I will also post links on this page for Web sites and other resources that may be of interest to you or your child.
Math: We're currently working in chapter 10 of our text book. We're covering some basic algebra in this chapter and looking at ways we can write simple equations. We've also looked at and used the order of operations in order to complete number sentences correctly.
Literacy: We have just finished some presentations involving Reader's Theatre in which the students prepared and presented plays to our class. The students really enjoyed the presentations. Our next genre study will include traditional literature as we look at fables, and other traditional stories that involve lessons learned and morals. It should be fun as we look at what makes this genre so unique!
Health: We have currently finished chapter 9 on alcohol and tobacco. We've learned a lot of great tips on how to avoid these substances to live a healthy, happy life. We'll have our test soon and finish up this unit of study with a visit from the high school PAWS group that will do a presentation on the dangers of smoking.
Science: We are now reading and studying from chapter 11 in our text. We have been looking at motion on Earth and the different forces that affect motion on our planet. We will be studying Newton's Laws of Motion and talking about ways those laws come into play with motion on Earth. We will soon be building our marble mazes to incorporate all the learning we have taken in with this chapter.
Social Studies: We are finishing up chapter 13 in our text about the westward expansion of our country. We've looked at how the country gained new lands as the result of the Mexican War and how settlers took to leaving their homes in search of new lands, religious freedoms, and the possibility of striking it rich with gold in California. Be sure to study the notes at the bottom of the page to prepare for our test soon to be coming.
