8th grade Spanish is the first full-year Spanish course offered to students in the Hortonville Area School District. Classes meet every day, all year long. 8th grade Spanish is a high school level course offered to 8th graders as an overload elective. Students who choose to study a World Language in 8th grade will NOT have a Help period/study hall. As such, this course is considered 'advanced' at the 8th grade level and is best suited for highly motivated learners with strong organizational skills. Students must demonstrate proficiency with 7th grade Spanish concepts in order to be eligible to enroll. Students who successfully complete 8th grade Spanish will earn one high school elective credit, and have the potential to complete five years of language study before graduation.
By the end of 8th grade Spanish students will be working with content introduced at level II Spanish in a traditional high school program. 8th grade Spanish students explore the Spanish language and the Spanish-speaking world, with a focus on Mexico and Spain. In this course students will learn to express their ideas about school, their daily routine, household chores, what they like to do during their free time, and what they've done in the past. Assessments involve interpreting both spoken and written Spanish, formal speaking and writing, and spontaneous conversations.
