The Hortonville Area School District has made a switch from NWEA MAP testing to STAR for the 2016-2017 school year. Students will be assessed a minimum of three times per year in the areas of reading and math. Unlike with NWEA MAP testing, STAR assessments are relatively quick allowing teachers to obtain some baseline data as to how students are doing on a class, grade, and school-wide level. On average it will take a student 20-25 minutes to complete the reading assessment and about 30-35 minutes for the math assessment. Data from both STAR assessments will be used to determine intervention groups for students, so it is extremely important that all students take the assessments seriously and do their best work. Those with questions about STAR are encouraged to contact classroom teachers or Mr. Lawrence anytime at 757-7140 or by email.
