Grading
Skyward is your first stop to see how your child is progressing. I enter grades almost daily into skyward. Daily work that is done on time will show up the day after it is turned in. Tests will show up a few days after they are taken. It takes a little longer to grade tests and I usually wait until all students have taken the test before grading. Work that is turned in after an absence or late will usually appear within a week.
Students should be sure to write down tests in their assignment notebooks. They are given notice before all tests. The test’s dates are usually written in the community assignment book as well as being announced. Students should study for tests even when notes are allowed.
Assignment notebooks should be used daily. As adults we use planners and write ourselves notes. This is something your children see you do. This is something they see me do when I write notes on the board about upcoming events or look over lesson plans. This is a behavior they need to learn. You can encourage them by signing their assignment notebook each night and talking to them about it if they forget to fill it out or bring it home. You can encourage them to write notes about other things in the assignment book as well.
Late/Absent Work
Students are given ample time in class and in help period to begin working on their homework and ask questions about assignments given. Students are expected to turn in their assignments on time. Students may hand in late work and receive partial credit within a reasonable amount of time. Absent work is the student’s responsibility. We fill out a listing of the work done. The student can also check the community assignment book for details not shown on their sheet. If the information is incomplete or does not make sense it is your child’s responsibility to ask for clarification. Obviously, a student often has to not only make up things missed, but also work on completing current assignments that are given. A reasonable amount of time will be given to complete work. If a large project is due the day your child is absent it will be due the day they return. Please realize a reasonable amount of time will need to be given for me to grade absent work.
