I am a strong believer in the importance of having public displays of student artwork. It gives students confidence in the value of their work and a feeling of pride in what they have accomplished.
I administrate an on-going student art display at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass in Neenah. Other places that have featured my students' work are the Appleton Public Library, Greenville YMCA, Trout Museum of Art in Appleton, and the Paine Art Center in Oshkosh. I try to give the opportunity for public displays to as many of my students as possible each year.
Parents will be notified by e-mail when their student's work will be in a display. Artwork is identified with the students' names and a sign listing the school, grade level, and description of the project. If any parents object to having their student's work be part of a display, they can contact me and I will remove the work from the display.
As vice president of the NE Region of the Wisconsin Art Education Association from 2012-2018, I ran the regional show for Youth Art Month each year. Each art teacher was allowed 5 entries so I selected one piece from each grade level to represent NGES at the regional. Three of those pieces moved on to the state show at the Capitol in Madison. NGES had state award winner for four years in a row (2015-2018).
Thank you to all the parents for sharing their students' work with me and the community!
