Objective: Determine the wavelength of each color comprizing white light using diffraction.
Procedure:
- Set up diffraction grating as seen in the picture below. Making L 1 meter is probably easiest.
- turn on light. look throug grating.
- have your partner slide the note card over until it lines up with a color.
- Measure from notecard to light bulb "x"
- Record this data and move to next color.
- After you have measured all the colors, replace the light bulb with a laser.
- For the laser, replace your eye location with the laser and put the wall 1 meter away. X distance will show up as a light on the wall.
- Using x, calculate the wavelength of the light.
