Report Card Changes: Letter from Mr. Harris

With the end of the semester on January 22, 2026, we wanted to share that report cards will look slightly different from previous years. They reflect changes and updates made to our grading system in grades 4K through 8.
We will continue to report student progress using mastery levels, as we have in the past. In calculating grades, the new system uses a decaying average, which simply means that more recent evidence of learning is weighted more heavily than older scores. As always, teacher professional judgment based on student data and overall performance remains the most important factor in determining grades for students.
Report cards will be share differently as well. They will be securely uploaded to Skyward, and parents will receive email notification from the district. Report cards will now be available to families at any time through the student portfolio in Family Access. This is the same practice currently used at our high school.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these new procedures. Please look for an email by Monday, February 2, with your child's report card information.
Sincerely, David S. Harris

Leadership development in action! A select group of FWA, HMS, and GMS students, handpicked by district teachers, traveled to the Resch Center to participate in the Packers Empower Leadership Conference.
Students heard from keynote speaker Captain Florent A. Groberg, a Medal of Honor recipient who shared his experiences with values-based leadership. Captain Groberg received the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions in Afghanistan when he prevented a suicide bomber attack, saving countless lives.
Students participated in dynamic breakout sessions including:
🎵 Rhymes with Reason - Language of Leadership: Exploring leadership through popular music lyrics while learning about goal setting and stewardship
📦 Care Kit Packing with Packers Alumni: Working alongside Nick Barnett, Frank Zombo, and Pulaski Hope Squad to pack hygiene, food, and school supply kits for students in need. These kits will come back to our schools to support fellow students in our community.
💪 Character Playbook - When it Matters Most: Scenario-based activities exploring decision-making, communication, and character strengths in real-world situations
HASD is deeply connected to the communities we serve, and partnerships like this with the Green Bay Packers create unique learning opportunities that develop the next generation of leaders. These experiences prepare our students to make a positive impact in the place we call home.
We're proud of our students for representing HASD with such excellence!
