Building Futures Through Opportunity: Why CTE Matters

At Hortonville Area School District, we believe every student deserves learning experiences that are meaningful, engaging, and connected to their future. Career and Technical Education plays a vital role in making that vision a reality.
CTE at Hortonville High School is designed to support all learners. Whether a student plans to enter the workforce directly, attend a technical college, pursue a four year degree, or explore multiple options along the way, CTE provides the skills, confidence, and real world understanding needed for long term success.
CTE by the Numbers
Hortonville High School currently offers 49 Career and Technical Education courses across a wide range of pathways. Throughout the school year, these courses represent 3,396 available seats. While many students enroll in more than one CTE course, this number reflects the broad reach of CTE programming and the significant role it plays in serving students across grade levels and interests.
From agriculture and construction to business education, family and consumer sciences, technology, manufacturing, marketing, and health sciences, CTE courses allow students to explore interests while building academic and technical skills that translate beyond the classroom.
Learning That Connects to the Real World
CTE courses emphasize hands-on learning, problem solving, collaboration, and critical thinking. Students apply classroom knowledge to real world scenarios, gaining experience that strengthens both academic understanding and career readiness.
Co curricular opportunities further extend this learning. This year, 75 students are members of DECA, where they develop leadership skills through projects, competitive events, and volunteer activities connected to business, marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship. HOSA continues to grow as well, with 52 students participating this year. HOSA’s mission is to empower future health professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration, and experience. Additional programs such as Educators Rising and Engineering Club provide students with even more ways to explore careers and apply learning in meaningful ways.
Strong Community Connections Through Youth Apprenticeship
Youth Apprenticeship is a powerful extension of CTE learning at Hortonville High School. Through this program, students earn credit while gaining hands-on experience with local employers and professionals.
Currently, Hortonville students are participating in Youth Apprenticeships across a wide range of career fields, including architecture and construction, manufacturing, health care, agriculture, STEM, marketing, hospitality and tourism, finance, transportation, education, information technology, and business management. These opportunities help students build workplace skills, explore career options, and develop professional relationships that benefit both students and the community.
CTE Supports Every Pathway
Career and Technical Education is not a single track or destination. It is a flexible, inclusive approach to learning that supports a wide range of goals. CTE helps students discover strengths, refine interests, and make informed decisions about their future.
At Hortonville, everyone belongs. CTE reflects our commitment to ensuring every student learns at the highest level by providing opportunities that are relevant, engaging, and connected to life beyond high school.

Students participated in dynamic breakout sessions including:
🎵 Rhymes with Reason - Language of Leadership: Exploring leadership through popular music lyrics while learning about goal setting and stewardship
📦 Care Kit Packing with Packers Alumni: Working alongside Nick Barnett, Frank Zombo, and Pulaski Hope Squad to pack hygiene, food, and school supply kits for students in need. These kits will come back to our schools to support fellow students in our community.
💪 Character Playbook - When it Matters Most: Scenario-based activities exploring decision-making, communication, and character strengths in real-world situations
